Welcome to the Judy Jester Learning Center

The Judy Jester Learning Center (JJLC – Alternative School) is located at 371 School Street in Moulton, between the Lions Club and the Lawrence County Career Technical Center.

The Judy Jester Learning Center is designed to serve students who have experienced challenges adjusting to a traditional educational setting. The program provides eligible students with an alternative learning environment focused on changing patterns of inappropriate academic behavior and/or inadequate academic effort. Our primary goal is to help students develop self-esteem, self-control, improved socialization skills, a positive attitude toward learning, and increased academic achievement.

Students are admitted to the alternative program according to established “at-risk” criteria and upon referral by school personnel. Each school should have a committee of school officials and/or other appropriate professionals to make recommendations for admission. Currently, the alternative school program serves students in grades 9–12.

The Judy Jester Learning Center campus is also home to the Behavioral Center (formerly known as COPS). The Behavioral Center is designed to support students who have experienced difficulty adjusting to the expectations and rules of a traditional educational setting. As an alternative to suspension or expulsion, the program provides students with a separate, structured environment focused on improving behavior, academic effort, and decision-making while allowing students to continue their education.

The campus is also home to the Judy Jester Resource Center, which provides short-term, specialized support for elementary and middle school special education students who are experiencing behavioral challenges in the traditional classroom setting. The Resource Center provides a smaller, structured group environment where students can continue working on assignments from their home schools while receiving individualized academic and behavioral support. The goal of the Resource Center is to help students develop the skills and strategies necessary to successfully transition back into their regular classroom environment while continuing to make progress academically, behaviorally, and socially.
